Play of Hope is a Non-for-Profit Sports Organization located on Magigye – Zirobwe Road, 5 kilometres from Gayaza Trading Centre. It was started in 2017 by Annet Nakamya, a former Ugandan national badminton champion who is currently a Badminton World Federation Level II Coach.
The Academy currently has over 30 young boys and girls between the ages of 4 to 22 years. The objective of the Academy is to equip young people with sports skills and professionally develop them by creating access to educational institutions that offer sports scholarships.
Play of Hope was born out of Annet's passion for badminton. While coaching her 5-year-old daughter in their home compound, young children from the neighbourhood would stop to look at them. She welcomed them to join in. After joining, they continued bringing their friends. She started sourcing equipment (rackets, shuttles, shoes and kits) for the new members because they could not afford to buy them for themselves.
Why Play of Hope? Sport is hope for many young people from humble backgrounds. At the Play of Hope Academy, we continuously aspire to create space for young people to dream, play, and hope for excellence.
